Vaccination is often an aspect of your horse’s health that can slip through the cracks. It is often hard to remember when your horse was last vaccinated and for what diseases they have been vaccinated. Keeping a health record for you horse is a simple way to keep track of this.

Foals can begin vaccination at 5 or 6 months of age and will require boosters throughout their lives. If you are unsure of your horse’s vaccination status, beginning a new vaccination protocol is recommended to help prevent disease.

The following are the vaccination guidelines we recommend:

A starting course of 3 vaccines at two week intervals is required, followed by a booster every 6 months to a year.

An initial course of two vaccinations 4 weeks apart. Pregnant mares require vaccination 4-6 weeks prior to foaling.

This requires a course of two vaccines, 4 weeks apart. This should be followed up with a yearly booster. Pregnant mares should receive a booster 4-6 weeks prior to foaling to build up antibodies in the colostrum and provide immunity to the foal at birth.

Equine Herpes Virus

Pregnant Mares require a course of three vaccinations with Pneumabort-K at 5, 7 and 9 months of pregnancy.
